A new Harris Poll confirms that Christian beliefs are on the decline in this country. There is a greater need for apologetic engagement with culture than ever before.

Belief in Christian doctrines is waning

It just does not matter how much you dialogue about this the high rises re growing and the single family dwelling is going. This is the inevitable consequence of civilizing; the progress of youth; the expanse of knowledge and the end of incredulity when critical mass assumes that nothing is true if it cannot be proved, reasoned; belief will never set you free only knowledge can do that.
The world is awakening finally from the supernatural slumber of silliness and miraculous myths; the cosmos holds far greater wonder for the human mind than a burning bush of antiquity when fire was carried around in the ark of the covenant and stoked by priests night and day so the spirit of God would not leave mankind ever again. Who can stand against that?

it is truly quite sad how this world is becoming more and more sinful, where it’s just thrown in our faces, and if you speak against it, your crucified. but it is only a sign of the times, which means that JESUS is getting close and closer, he’s coming back, and i want to be ready, because those who are not, are going to be in terrible trouble, but it will be to late. it will be to late to repent. to late to turn to GOD. to late to be saved. because he gave us the chance to be saved and we didn’t receive him.

leah:
Jesus has been coming back for 2000 thousand years according to religious dogma but face reality; Jesus is not coming back and he never said he was.
Don’t wait for the coming… “BE” the Coming! …that’s
what the message has been all along….!
We just haven’t spotted it yet…….It’s the only one
that makes sense…..
The Second Coming depends only on the one willing to accept it for what it is. You’re waiting for th Second Coming but I’ve got news for you…The Second Coming is waiting for you. Cause if you are not it. You will never see the second Coming. The Second Coming will be no different than the first Coming. The First Coming required someone to accept and BE the Com,ing. The Second Coming is exactly the same way. Waiting for the Second Coming? Don’t bother because if you are not IT…You will never SEE the Second Coming.
“Remembering and Proclaiming Christ Until He Comes”
If you are waiting for the Second Coming, sorry but you already missed the concept. And you will never see such an event the way that you believe from what the clergy has taught you.
A few scriptures might enlighten you for
You are getting delusional. Clergy does not care for you or anyone else. Clergy is all about clergy, nothing to do with the people.
The supernatural does not exist.
There have always been wars and rumors of war, earthquakes happen all over the world and has been happening forever. Catastrophes and storms are always happening too and people have been predicting the Second Coming for thousands of years and every generation says the time is at hand but it never is. Even Jesus said it does not come by observation so it isn’t even something you can see or observe. He said when they tell you he is in the chambers, don’ t go, in the outer garden don’t follow them. You can read it for yourself in Luke 17, 20.
In another place Mat 10,23 Jesus said “For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” What do you think that means relative to every generation saying the days of the Coming are at hand? And the faithful await his return? Even though Jesus own words refute this idea.
Another scripture you need to know about from Jesus: He said none can come to the son unless the spirit of the father draw him. so what do you think you can do about anything? Unless the spirit of the Father WITHIN draws you. So don’t imagine that some supernatural being in the high northern sky is watching externally, uh uh. The Father is within you!
What Jesus referred to was the self witness, the conscience, inside all of us. He called that guide, The Father. and that’s why he said the Kingdom is within you.
The churches have bamboozled the earth’s people for so long people can’t think for themselves anymore without feeling shame or guilt and that’s exactly the way the church wants you to feel. Religion has to make you feel unworthy to be alive in order to capture your humanity but that is a bunch of crocodilian nonsense.
It will never happen; the Second Coming is an illusion, does not come with observation and will never come to anyone. The Second Coming? You must be the Coming you are waiting for. You need to be the change you dream. It’s all about you and the spirit within you.
John 8: 56-58
Jesus speaking to the Clergy: “You haven’t recognized the Father in this. But I have. If I, in false modesty, said I didn’t know what was going on, I would be as much of a liar as you are. But I do know, and I am doing what he says. Abraham—your ‘father’—with jubilant faith looked down the corridors of history and saw my day(Son of Man) coming. He saw it and cheered.”
Jesus did not wait around for the Messiah Coming in his day; he chose to be the Coming everyone was waiting for; you also, do likewise today and you will be, BE-ING.

I agree, belief in Christian doctrines is waning and it will get much worse as I understand according to Bible predictions. There are probably several reasons, but I’m only concerned with the ones we Christians bring upon ourselves. I believe the next falling away will take place soon, possibly in my lifetime, as the so called “rapture” does not occur. Christianity, unlike other religions has expiration dates in my opinion. The first was the resurrection and the next is the second coming. IMO the Bible is quite clear, Jesus and others foretold His second coming. Yes, several of the signs are general and as other prophesies there are several different opinions among believers. Some of the signs as I understand could not have happened though until modern times (i.e. Israel becoming a nation, nuclear weapons, 200,000,000 soldiers, the world watching the two witness, etc…). And again there are many disagreements on these interpretations. Maybe it’s time to re-assess our “doctrines” and get back to first century foundations and if we can’t find an answer in the Bible don’t make stuff up (mostly done by the HRCC but carried on by other Christian denominations).

Paul:
Bible prophecy is like Nostradamus prophecy and other guesses. Conspiracists run around when an event takes place looking for a mouse hole to put the event in someone’s “suitable” prophecy. There are no such things as prophecies, only trendy guesses.
It’s like the prophecy of Number 666, Mark and Name of the Beast, “Money” with the prediction that no one, poor or rich, big or small, slave or free man can buy or sell without it but of course more so in today’s economy than; say in biblical times, when barter was more of an option than today.
Some people think the “two witnesses” were the twin towers and not necessarily people. Every generation has been waiting for the Second Coming but even Jesus said in Matt 10:23: I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.’
Look at it this way: a Psychic and a Prophet are birds of a feather; did you ever read the headline, ‘PSYCHIC WINS LOTTERY”. I rest my case.

Son of Man,
I find that strange about The Bible, I can read it and believe a doctrine or teaching or belief some of my fellow Christians hold to be a fact is false (eg. my soul is immortal, Sunday morning resurrection) while their sure I’m deceived. May be everybody is deceived to some extent? I live my life thinking I’m right but realize I could be wrong. I believe the two witness are Moses and Elijah while others believe it’s the twin towers. Some freak out about a government ID chip implant while I believe the mark of the beast is tied to whom you believe God is. May be this division over doctrines is a good thing? Kind of a modern day Tower of Babel.

Paul:
Here is some information for you to digest:
The only two other references in the bible about 666 tell about the same event and that is, the amount of wealth coming into Solomon’s Bank in a year, noted as 666 talents of gold, that was not all the wealth but it was symbolic of all the wealth, in other words money, currency. Everything else means nothing since the world was living in the time of 666 when the scripture was written and every generation since it was written, including today. It was and IS the way of the world. The Way of The Beast.
The simple fact is that Money is the name of beast,(currency, dough, buck, dollar, quid, greenback, scratch, mullah, folding stuff, coin, sterling) the number of the beast as noted in Kings, Chronicles and Revelation, is 666. (1 Kings 10:14-15; 2 Chronicles 9:13-14)
The fact about Solomon’s 1,000 concubines has nothing to do with the scriptural meaning, the fact that he had steps and 12 lions or whatever also has nothing to do with it, the economy, the nuclear arsenals or the God you believe in, have nothing to do with it; everything else is extraneous information and has nothing to do with the simple fact that 666 is Money and the world depends on it and nobody free or slave, small or great, rich or poor can buy or sell WITHOUT MONEY, WITHOUT AN AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT 666 SYMBOLIZES and/or WITHOUT THE MARK OF MONEY THAT DENOTES THE CURRENCY VALUE..
Simple example. You want groceries. You go to the store and pick out what you want. The grocer says how will you pay, you say cash(money-currency) He says that’ll be $87.87. You say that’s okay I have $87.87 and he says what is the Mark of your money and you say, US $ Mark. Deal done.
The same deal is made in Japan, let’s say. $87.87, you say you have $87.87 but the currency Mark now is the Yen Mark ¥,
In UK £, Bengali rupee mark, Ú, Canada, CAD$, Philippines, Peso, ₱, Euro €, cents ¢, dollars $, all Marks of THE BEAST.
Simple explanation Name, Number, Mark: Money, 666, $–£–¢–€–₱ etc.
Man is a past master at complicating the issues, looking for codes and meaning that is right in front of his nose.
One needs to look no further why this is exactly what it means:
Revelation 13:18 (New King James Version)
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.
Actually it is the verses before the 666 verse.
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads,
17that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark or the name of the beast or the number of his name. In other words access to MONEY.
The other thing about symbolism is the way it talks about one’s mindset as being the “forehead” foremost thought, thus what you have in the front of your mind is referred to as being marked in the “forehead” . The forehead refers to your mindset. WHAT is UPPER MOST IN YOUR MIND, WHAT YOU ARE TUNED IN TO.
And the right hand has always been that symbols of power; I.E. sitting at the right hand of god, the second in command being on the right side. as “He is the right hand man”. These simple symbolisms are totally missed by the theorists. Genesis 48:13
And Joseph took them both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them near him—-Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.—-Genesis 48:17
Now when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him; so he took hold of his father’s hand to remove it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.—Exodus 15:6
“Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power;Your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces.—-Exodus 15:12
You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them.—-Leviticus 8:23
and Moses killed it. Also he took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.—–Deuteronomy 33:2
And he said:“The LORD came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousands of saints; From His right hand Came a fiery law for them.—-1 Kings 2:19
Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed down to her, and sat down on his throne and had a throne set for the king’s mother; so she sat at his right hand.—-Psalm 77:10
And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.”—-Psalm 78:54
And He brought them to His holy border,This mountain which His right hand had acquired.———-There are tons of references about the right hand symbolism of power.and it is no differenty rendered in Revelation—-and a negative reference in Psalms: Psalm 144:11
Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners,Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—.
Ask yourself what is it that both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, cannot buy or sell, unless he that had the mark or the name of the beast or the number of his name. In other words access to MONEY. This is not a belief based position but a knowledge base position on scriptural references as amply noted.
Man is a past master at complicating the issues.
Sometimes there require some lengthy explanations rather than simple statements.
Take care

Son of Man,
I approach the mark of the beast from a different angle based on my understanding of the prophesy. It suggests to me a future world government encompassing all aspects of life (politics, religion, economic). The vast majority of people alive at that time will join. Only members of this society will be allowed to buy or sell, thereby putting those that don’t join in jeopardy. To join this society I believe will entail willfully breaking one or more of the 10 commandments (I’m guessing #1-4). I find it very interesting that beheading is stated as the form of execution and lots of the victims are identified as Christian. Perhaps it’s a case of finding what your looking for, but I see beginnings of this now (eg. Political correctness run amok, Human Rights Commissions, Freedom of speech under attack, Attack on personal freedoms to protect the environment against global warming, more and more of our citizens are dependent on government either directly or indirectly). I’ve gotten a little off topic, hopefully in the future we might see a post about the mark of the beast.

Paul Vander Voort:
From where I sit the Mark of the Beast is obvious and one need not look for anything beyond the reality of what Revelation and Kings says about 666.
Looking for a Society to develop is as futile as waiting for the Second Coming…never gonna happen.
The World Government you mention us already happening and is the inevitable consequence of civilizing.

It’s good to know you have society’s best interest at heart (Oh, oops can’t say “heart”). So let’s dump all religions: No more talk about religion, no more books about religion (in fact, it’s time for a big old book burning party), no more Christmas trees, no more Christmas, no more buying gifts, no more cemeteries (that would be silly if there was no religion besides let’s use the space for football fields and condos), no more two day weekend! YOU now will work SIX DAYS A week. No more bible in the courtroom (no oaths except that dreamed up by good ole perfect mankind (ha ha ha). Dump fairness, morals, philanthropic giving (none of these has anything to do with a Darwinistic worldview).
So… son-of-man please invent us ‘another’ Brave new World. But you will be consistent you can not (you will not be allowed to) keep what you want (like a 5 day work week) and yet get rid of Sunday as a day set aside for religious worship. Ya this ought to be good!!

Gordon, your humorous sarcasm is not lost on me however you do fail to acknowledge certain aspects of humanity. Religious books need not be burned; that is so yesterday, Taliban, so Al-Qaeda-ish. We have museums to show the progress of civilization so posterity can look back at the stoneagism of the past. to see where we’ve been and where we are now, comparatively.
Christmas trees were cut, carried, fastened with nails and adorned before there was a Christmas; giving of gifts was also part of the Season; most Christians don’t know it but the biblical record is quite clear about the Festival of Estrus that can be read about in Jeremiah 10:10 of the Old Testament and to which Jeremiah referred to as the stock of vanities followed by the heathen; before Jesus was even a sparkle in Gabriel and Mary’s eye let alone before he was born. We just need to put religion in its place; that it jumped on the biggest festival bandwagons and hijacked them as their own to take advantage of its commercialism. All these things form part of the Record of Mankind.
In the same way good men and women are hijacked and claimed to have been born of a particular religion, for the gilted association of glorious honour whose greatness was proclaimed by religions like Christianity; for example, did with Galileo, hundreds of years after his books were banned, after he was charged as a heretic and kept under house arrest for the rest of his life.
If one took the teachings by the real man Jesus of the New Testament bible to “heart” one would not swear on the bible or make an oath: Matt 5: “33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven;
35 Nor by the earth; neither by Jerusalem;
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Yes if you mean Yes and No if you mean no.
We should have a 7 day work week; individuals can work 5 days or six or seven if they want for when the Pharisees criticized Jesus and his disciples for working on the Sabbath Jesus simple answer was that “The Sabbath was made for man not Man for the Sabbath therefore man is master of the Sabbath.(you weekend) But it was indeed a religious ritual born of stoneagism. Put religion in its place; tell it as it is, a hideous excuse cum for man to perform his evils will proclaiming his self righteousness.
Fairness, morals and giving alms? all from the goodness inborn in the human spirit and recognized finally as a virtue by one of the greatest atheists that came out of the closet and condemned for blasphemy because of it, Jesus.
True worshippers worship in spirit and in truth; not on a certain day, in a certain place, at certain times and events of certain festivities.
We must remember that religion CAN be a great source of humor as well as great tragedy, guilt, self-loathing, fear, misery, cruelty and pain. And one could argue that anyone who gets their morals from some ancient text might as well get their personality from a micro chip and I find it hard to argue with that point of view.
I live in a society where everyone’s beliefs are respected, as long as they believe in god. But, despite that there are still some good reasons to be an atheist. Personally, I like the hours, 24/7. I find they suit me very well indeed.
Now people often ask me about being an atheist and certain questions crop up all the time. For example, how can you know good from evil without religion to guide you? Well that’s just the point isn’t it, religion does guide me. Most of the things I see religion do, I think are evil. And I find that’s a pretty useful benchmark. If religion is involved I know evil won’t be too far away.
Another question is, isn’t atheism itself just another religion? Well, I suppose atheism is a religion in the same way that creationism is a science or Islam is a religion of peace; in other words, when language no longer really means anything. How can atheism be a religion? Who do we worship and who’s going to kill us if we don’t? Atheism doesn’t demand absolute unquestioning obedience or make threats about eternal damnation nor does it take childish offense over trifles. It doesn’t treat women like livestock.
In a way it’s a shame it’s not a religion because we might be able to get a few tax breaks out of it but no; atheism doesn’t get any special privileges, there are no schools teaching atheism to children as a belief system, paid for with public money. Nor does atheism require anyone to tithe part of their income to keep a few cynical con-men in luxury so you see it doesn’t begin to qualify as a religion worthy of the name.
Atheism is another word for reality, it means not seeing any need to apologize for being human. And to be happy to live the life we have and not just wish it away on some celestial wingnut that tells me heaven is right there waiting and all you’ve got to do, is DIE. That’s some price to pay for admission to a place that is likely to be full of clergymen, born again christians and suicide Muslim JigSaw puzzles which I reckon makes it a fate worse than death. pcondell
but surely people need religion to answer certain questions, well yes, questions like, How best can we stifle the human spirit? How much can we squeeze from the poor and gullible? and how many palaces can we live in at once? without blushing. These questions religion answers very well indeed. But unfortunately there are other questions to which it doesn’t have answers so it makes them up.
Tell it like it is so the children will see clearly where we’ve been and we are now(at last) going.
